I. Current status and needs for safety management in distribution rooms

The power distribution room is an important part of the power system, with a variety of high-voltage power distribution devices for the control and distribution of electrical energy. In order to ensure the safe operation of the distribution room, it is necessary to have a full-time electrician on duty 24 hours a day to closely monitor the parameters of various meters.

This demand for manpower may lead to resource constraints and increase the difficulty of supervision, thus bringing potential risks to the security of power supply. At the same time, relying only on manual supervision may not be able to accurately determine the current state of the equipment, making it difficult to identify and solve problems in a timely manner. In order to solve the current problems in power safety management, World Power Intelligence proposes an IoT solution for power distribution room safety management.

II. Internet of Things solutions for power distribution room management

In order to solve the problems that may occur during the daily maintenance and use of high voltage and low voltage distribution rooms, Seiden Intelligence proposes a solution for the safety management of distribution rooms. The solution is based on wireless communication technologies, such as ZigBee (LoRa) and 4G, and realizes network connection of sensing data and camera data through wireless connection.

The whole solution includes World Power Intelligence's smart gateway, various switching/analog devices and sensor devices required for power management. It specifically includes the following three parts:

  • The server room itself has surveillance cameras, burglar alarms and intelligent access control sections;
  • Temperature and humidity sensors, indoor dust detection, transformer temperature detection, switchgear partial discharge detection, flood detectors, SF6 leakage prevention detection, and other related data involving indoor fire safety in equipment rooms;
  • Current and voltage sensors, power sensors, electrical degree sensors, arc fault sensors, anti-surge sensors, etc. inside the cabinet.

After collecting relevant power data in real time, these testing devices are transmitted to the server and cloud platform through the World Power Smart Gateway.

After data processing and comprehensive diagnosis and analysis by the platform, electrical fire faults and hidden dangers such as leakage, overload, short circuit, three-phase imbalance, over-voltage, poor contact, abnormal temperature rise, etc. can be detected in time. Through terminal devices such as computers, smartphones and tablets, it can accurately manage and control equipment in one or more distribution rooms, realizing transparent monitoring and management of hidden electrical fire faults.

III. Distribution room management Internet of things system composition

The IoT system for safety management of power distribution room is mainly composed of four parts: perception layer, transmission layer, application layer and terminal layer.

  • Perception Layer:
    • This includes data acquisition modules and various sensor devices, such as current sensors, voltage sensors, temperature and humidity sensors, residual power detectors, pyrolysis particle detectors, arc fault detectors, and so on. These devices are used to monitor various data elements in the distribution room, including monitoring, safety and power.
  • Transport Layer:
    • This includes the World Power Smart Polybox gateway device, Zigbee (LoRa) wireless connection device and wireless transmission network. The transmission layer is responsible for transmitting the data obtained from the sensing layer to the application layer to realize data transmission and connection.
  • Application Layer:
    • It is mainly a power supply and distribution and equipment monitoring and management platform for power distribution rooms. The application layer is responsible for monitoring, managing and analyzing the real-time data of the IoT system acquired by the perception layer. Through this layer, monitoring, management and analysis of the power distribution room can be realized.
  • Terminal Layer:
    • It refers to terminal devices such as smart phones, iPads, computers and PCs. The terminal layer can obtain real-time operation data and fault alarm information etc. of the equipment in the system in a timely manner. Through the terminal device, users can conveniently view the operation status of the power distribution room and perform corresponding operations.

IV. Distribution room management Internet of Things system functions

  • Device data visualization:
    • Through the digital display of equipment status, the platform clearly and intuitively displays all kinds of power data in the distribution room, enabling users to intuitively understand the operating status of the equipment.
  • Historical data statistics and analysis:
    • The platform retains the historical data uploaded by each device and draws graphs to analyze the usage status and wear and tear of the equipment through intelligent categorization and data analysis, and to pre-determine the hidden dangers of the equipment.
  • Automatic alarm for fault messages:
    • When the platform determines that the equipment in the distribution room is faulty by uploading data, it will pass the alarm information to the maintenance electrician and management personnel through SMS, WeChat and email, so as to facilitate the timely resolution of the fault.
  • Automatic power-off mode:
