UWB Technology Enabler: Introducing the FiRa Alliance

Posted in 知识科普  |  Tagged ,

The FiRa Alliance (Fine Ranging, Precision Ranging) is a non-profit organization focused on promoting the use of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for applications including access control, location-based services and device-to-device communications. Since its inception in 2019, the FiRa Alliance has worked to improve the security and accuracy of UWB technology and its applications in different fields.

Core Mission and Goals

The primary goal of the FiRa Alliance is to establish itself as a reliable and trusted brand of UWB technology in the marketplace. Through the development of interoperability standards and certification programs, the Alliance promotes the widespread adoption of UWB technology in commercial and consumer markets. Highlights include the development of high-precision physical layer (HRP) and medium access control (MAC) technology standards based on IEEE 802.15.4/4z, as well as testing and certification to ensure product interoperability.

Membership and cooperation

The FiRa Alliance consists of more than 100 members including ASSA ABLOY, Bosch, NXP Semiconductors, and Samsung Electronics, spanning a wide range of roles from chipmakers to device manufacturers to system integrators. Alliance members work together to drive innovation and standardization of UWB technology worldwide.

Technology and Certification

The FiRa Alliance has published several technical specifications and is launching its first certification program in 2021, designed to ensure interoperability and compliance of UWB devices. These technical specifications cover physical and MAC layer requirements, define how the range protocol works and the types of range supported (Business Wire).

Application Outlook

The FiRa Alliance is actively expanding the use of UWB technologies in areas such as smart cities, smart buildings, retail and consumer applications. These technologies not only provide precise location information, but also guarantee the security and reliability of data transmission, thus enhancing user experience and operational efficiency (Techtime News,FiRa Consortium).

In addition, the FiRa Alliance provides a wealth of resources and information, including webinars, technical white papers, and annual reports, to support its members and industry stakeholders in better understanding and utilizing UWB technology (FiRa Consortium).
