The WE-CXU series of products is an easy-to-use USB to XBee wireless network adapter with an embedded Digi XBee wireless communication module that provides a local connection to a wireless network, enabling USB serial to wireless communication. Simply plug the XBee USB adapter into a USB port on your laptop or PC for instant access to the Digi XBee network and its connected devices. This compact USB wireless adapter supports local network configuration, diagnostics or device monitoring.

The XBee USB adapter is compatible with Zigbee, 802.15.4 or DigiMesh 2.4 firmware. If the network is running a different protocol than the one the XBee USB adapter is programmed for, it will not be able to connect to the network. It is possible to change the firmware on the XBee USB adapter through XCTU (Digi's XBee Configuration and Test Software) to achieve the purpose of modifying the programming protocol at the same time, and its typical application scenario is illustrated below:

Software and Debugging

Upper computer software description

In order to have a better understanding ofWE-ZB2ST01respond in singingWE-ZB1ST01series products for local network configuration, diagnostics, or device monitoring;World PowerdevelopedWE-CXUThe Digi XBee USB to XBee Wireless Network Adapter provides a local connection to a wireless network and enables USB serial to wireless communications. Simply plug the XBee USB adapter into a USB port on your laptop or PC for instant access to the Digi XBee network and its connected devices. Provide PC configuration management software, the main interface of the software is shown in Figure 1 below, users can locally configure the relevant parameters of the product, which needs to be used with the XBee USB adapter product, the PC connects to the XBee USB adapter through the serial port, and uses the DigiMesh communication to configure the wireless networking and address parameters in the product. The reference connection is shown in Figure 2 below. For more information about the XBee USB Adapter product, please refer to theWE-CXUSeries related information

software functionality

The software can mainly realize the following functions:
  1. Searches for devices on the same network and displays a list of results;
  2. Display parameter values (network ID, channel, MAC address, firmware version, hardware version and others) of wireless modules in the same network;
  3. Setting Wireless Module Parameters
    •  Set the wireless analog IO device XBee module parameters, you can set the network ID, network channel;
    • Set the XBee USB adapter device XBee module parameters for network ID, network channel and baud rate.
  4. Sets the device ID and destination address of the wireless terminal equipment product, which may contain only some of the functions for different products;
  5.  Commissioning of wireless analog IO products

Description of parameter items

Hint: Point your mouse to the icon in front of the parameter item on the software page to get an input hint.The
  1. Network ID Parameter Description: the PAN ID (Personal Area Network) identifier of the device.The PAN ID allows multiple networks sharing the same RF channel to be logically separated. The same PAN ID and channel must be configured in order to enable communication between devices. Parameter range: 0x0 - 0xFFFF Default value: 0x7FFF Input hint: Hexadecimal string, no need to enter "0x", 2 bytes. Input examples: "010E", "01 0E", "10E", "1E" etc.
  2.  Network channel Parameter Description: Operational channel devices are used to send and receive data. In order for devices to communicate with each other, they must share the same channel number. A network can use different channels to prevent devices in one network from listening to transmissions from another network, thus reducing interference. This parameter uses the IEEE 802.15.4 channel number. Parameter range: 0xB - 0x1A Default value: 0xC (channel 12) Input hint: Hexadecimal string, no need to enter "0x", 1 byte. Input example: "0E", "E", "10", etc.
  3. Baud Rate Parameter Description: The command sets the serial baud rate used by the UART port of the device to communicate with the host. Parameter range: 1200 - 115200 Default Value: 9600
  4. Device ID Parameter description: Modbus device address for Modbus protocol communication. Parameter range: 1 - 247 Default value: 1 Input Example: "2", "37", "247", etc.
  5. Target Address Parameter description: the target receiver of the message sent by the device, the serial number of the Xbee module, must be a real existing MAC address. Parameter range: real existing MAC address Default value: None Input Example: "0013A2004192475F"
  6. Input Value Parameter description: Input value of the wireless analog IO device, read-only parameter. Parameter range: 4.000 - 20.000 Default value: None
  7. Output value Parameter description: Output value of the analog IO device, supporting three-digit decimal precision. Parameter range: 4.000 - 20.000 Default value: 0

Precautions for parameter setting

The network ID and network channel value parameters of two devices are the same, so that the devices can be in the same network, and the XBee USB adapter can search for the devices in the same network, it is recommended to set only the network ID parameters, if the devices have strong interference, you can modify the different network channel values, if you need to modify at the same time, please follow the steps below:
  1. Modify the network ID of the device to be configured;
  2. Modify the network ID of the XBee USB adapter;
  3. Modify the network channel of the device to be configured;
  4. Modifying the network channel of the XBee USB adapter

Operating Instructions

  1. Connect the XBee USB adapter to the computer via the USB port and note down the serial number and baud rate;
  2. Open the product configuration software, click on the "product switching" button to select the "4-20mA analog" product type that needs to be operated, and then jump to the corresponding product configuration interface after selection, as shown in the figure.
  3. Select the serial number at the top of the page, the software will display all the current serial numbers of the devices connected to the computer, select the serial number and baud rate of the XBee USB adapter device connected in the first step;
  4. Clicking the "Search" button will carry out a 15-second device search, during which the basic information of the XBee USB adapter connected to the computer through the serial port will be loaded and displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the software interface; at the same time, searching for devices to be configured that are on the same network as the XBee USB adapter, and displaying the MAC address of the Xbee module found in the list on the left side of the software, as shown in the figure. At the same time, it searches for the devices to be configured that are on the same network as the XBee USB adapter, and displays the MAC address of the Xbee module of the searched device in the list area on the left side of the software as shown in the figure:
  5. After selecting a device in the left list area, it will show the current device operable items, and the functions displayed may vary slightly from product to product. The detailed information of the Xbee module to be configured is displayed in the upper center area, including the module's MAC address, firmware version and hardware version information. At the same time, the upper right "Device Information" area shows the network ID and network channel of the module, and some products contain the device ID and destination address function. As shown in the picture above;
  6. The Pending Configuration Device Information area is for the parameters of the wireless analog IO device to be configured, including the network ID and network channel parameters of the Xbee module, as well as other parameters such as the ID and destination address of the device;
  7. The XBee USB adapter information area is for the Xbee USB product parameters, including the network ID, network channel and baud rate of the Xbee module. After clicking the "Reset" button, the parameters of the module will be restored to the factory default parameters, the default value of network ID is "7FFF", the default value of network channel is "C", the default value of baud rate is "9600"; and the default value of baud rate is "1". "9600";
  8. The channel setting area is used for debugging analog IO products, you can click the "Read" button to get the current input value of the product, and you can set the output value, the output value supports any number in the range of 4.000-20.000, and it supports the precision of three decimals;
  9. You can click on the icon in front of a parameter on the software page to get an input prompt.Description of parameter itemsThe
