I. Background of the Smart Charging Post Program

With the deployment and implementation of the new energy strategy and the implementation of the Guiding Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Accelerating the Popularization and Application of New Energy Vehicles, the number of electric vehicles continues to climb. Supporting electric vehicle charging and switching facilities have taken the lead in the construction of electric vehicle charging and switching systems, which have gradually formed a combination of charging piles, charging stations, switching stations and other facilities.

II. Charging pile operation networking requirements

With the rapid development of technology and the continuous influx of capital, new energy electric vehicles are developing rapidly. As the supporting infrastructure for electric vehicles, charging piles are in the wind, with huge prospects. At present, the number of domestic charging piles is increasing day by day, with the rapid expansion of the scale also brings a series of management needs, mainly including:

  • Charging posts are scattered, making it difficult for car owners to find them;
  • Long charging times and long wait times for owners;
  • Charging piles are complex in structure and difficult to maintain and manage;
  • Charging pile locations are scattered, including underground parking lots, highways may require a large number of charging piles, management is inconvenient.

In order to help charging pile enterprises to solve the above practical needs, World Power proposes intelligent charging pile monitoring IoT solution.

Third, the intelligent charging pile IoT monitoring solution overview

With the help of zigbee (LoRa), 4G and other wireless technologies, World Power charging pile monitoring IOT solution realizes the functions of charging pile positioning, charging pile charging and discharging control, charging pile status monitoring, charging pile surroundings monitoring, and unified management of multiple charging piles with the help of IOT equipments, such as wireless data transmission module, collection module, and intelligent gateway.
For the complex structure of charging pile, World Power adopts low-power zigbee (LoRa) wireless module embedded inside the charging pile and combines it with the control system to collect real-time operation data of the charging pile, such as current, voltage, power, and electricity. The smart gateway connects zigbee (LoRa) collection and transmission nodes in the downstream, and connects servers and terminal devices in the upstream via WiFi/4G network. The collected real-time operation data of charging pile is transmitted to the terminal equipment platform through the intelligent gateway, and the platform realizes the unified management of large-scale charging pile.

According to the regional nature of the geographic location of the charging pile, it can be divided into two types: centralized and discrete. The data collected from each charging pile in each centralized area is transmitted to the server and cloud platform through the intelligent gateway.

V. Intelligent Charging Post Monitoring System

The electric vehicle intelligent charging pile monitoring system is mainly composed of four parts: perception layer, transmission layer, application layer and terminal layer.

  1. Sensing layer, including zigbee (LoRa) transmission nodes, data acquisition modules, GPS modules, current and voltage sensors, displacement sensors, infrared sensors, and cameras;
  2. Transport layer, including ZIGBEE+4G or LoRa+4G gateway devices, wireless connectivity devices, and wireless transmission networks;
  3. The application layer is mainly a charging pile monitoring and management platform, which is responsible for monitoring and managing all the accessed charging piles;
  4. Terminal layer, refers to smart phones, ipads, computers, PCs, etc.

VI. Intelligent charging pile monitoring system function

1、Charging pile status monitoring

The system synchronously collects data information such as current, voltage, switching status and protection status of the charging pile through zigbee/LoRa module, data acquisition module, current and voltage sensors and other sensing devices.

2. Electric vehicle charging monitoring

Data acquisition of input and output voltage, current, power, power factor, charging time, current charging mode, and charger fault status during charging.

3、Image, video information acquisition

Each area is equipped with cameras, which can monitor the environmental information around the charging pile to avoid the charging pile facilities being vandalized, and at the same time, it can be the first time to find out some equipment risks caused by the external harsh environment.

4, Charging pile advertising screen multimedia advertising information release

According to the management platform, you can set the content that needs to be placed on the advertising screen.

5. Asset positioning

By embedding the GPS module, the location coordinates of each charging post can be clearly seen on the map of the system platform.

6. Centralized management of charging piles with decentralized layout

Through the terminal system management platform, it can realize the centralized and unified management of remote large-scale charging piles, grasp the terminal operation status in real time, reduce the operation cost of the charging pile enterprises, and improve the service quality and economic benefits of the operators.
